On March 9, 2016, Chairman of Ca Mau People’s Committee issued Decision No. 343/QĐ-UBND approving the Planning on socio-economic development of Hon Chuoi Island, Tran Van Thoi District, Ca Mau Province, until 2020 and orientation to 2030.
The socio-economic development planning of Hon Chuoi island to serve the establishment of island communes under the National Youth Island Construction Plan for the period of 2013-2020, which was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 186/QĐ-TTg dated January 24, 2014 (Hon Chuoi island is one of 5 islands chosen to be planned as Youth Island) and implemented Central Resolution 4 (Session X) on Vietnam Sea Strategy to 2020.
According to the Decision of Approval, the objective of the development plan for Hon Chuoi Island is to increase the production value and the proportion of the contribution of Hon Chuoi Island to the economic development of Tran Van Thoi district and of Ca Mau province; forming a new population cluster with a synchronized planning, creating jobs and stabilizing life; effectively protect forests and forestry land on the island in order to protect water sources, prevent erosion, wind and storm shields, handle wastes, prevent illegal fishing activities; political stability, social order and safety, economic development associated with ensuring national defense and security.
The plan has set directions for socio-economic development to 2020 and orientations to 2030 such as: Fisheries – forestry – agriculture, industry – cottage industries (knitting, ice processing, manufacturing mechanical engineering for ship repair, drying and preliminary processing of aquatic products), trade – tourism and social fields. In addition, the Plan sets out the orientation to ensure national defense and security; direction of territorial organization; infrastructure development (transport, port planning, electricity – water supply, social infrastructure); land use directions; capital demand and investment divergence; environmental protection measures and solutions for implementation of the Planning.
The list of key investment programs and projects for the implementation of the Plan till 2020 is also issued by the Provincial People’s Committee together with the above Decision on approving the planning. The provincial People’s Committee assigned the Department of Planning and Investment to lead, coordinate with the provincial departments and branches, People’s Committee of Tran Van Thoi district to announce and organize the implementation of the planning as prescribed.
